Since the turn of the century, Cedar Rapids has been the home of thousands of immigrants from the countries of eastern Europe, and this restored section of 16th Avenue was one of the main shopping districts for these immigrants. Today, many of the shops that existed in the early 19th-century still exist today, including the Sykora Bakery and Meat Market (both built in the 1920s) and Zindrick's Czech Restaurant. The area is located along 16th Avenue, near the riverfront.
